New Year's Eve in Bangkok 2026
Countdown to 2027 · Bangkok time
Bangkok's two biggest New Year's Eve countdowns are on the river at ICONSIAM and in the city centre at CentralWorld. Last year both were free, both ended with fireworks at midnight and both drew thousands of people.
If you want the same fireworks without the crush, book a rooftop: Bangkok's sky bars have the best seats in the city. This guide covers everything for 31 December 2026, and we update it as each countdown announces its plans.
What is confirmed for 31 December 2026 (as of 4 October 2026): our own New Year’s Eve pool party at Centara Grand, Pastel’s countdown packages, and river dinner cruises already on sale. The big public countdowns have not announced their 2026 plans yet: last year ICONSIAM announced in late November. Until they do, the details below are from New Year’s Eve 2025, and we update this page as soon as each one confirms.
The Big Countdowns
Bangkok does not have one New Year’s Eve, it has half a dozen, each with its own stage, its own crowd and its own fireworks. These are the ones that ran on 31 December 2025.
ICONSIAM: Amazing Thailand Countdown
The biggest of them all. ICONSIAM’s riverside countdown ran over five days, from 27 to 31 December, in the River Park on the Thonburi bank, with free entry and more than 200 artists. The night itself ended with the city’s largest fireworks show: about 20 minutes of fireworks and drones along 1.4 km of the Chao Phraya, which the mall says can be seen up to 8 km away. Organisers counted more than 1.8 million visitors across the five days, so the riverbanks fill early. The official event page is where the 2026 edition will appear first.
CentralWorld: Bangkok Countdown
The city-centre party, often called the Times Square of Asia. CentralWorld’s countdown is free, takes over the plaza and the surrounding roads, and is famous for its line-up of Thai pop stars and a long fireworks and drone show across the Ratchaprasong skyline. More than 350,000 people came last year. The Centara Grand tower next to the mall puts two rooftops, Red Sky and CRU, right above the action.
One Bangkok
The newest of the big countdown venues, in One Bangkok Park on Wireless Road next to MRT Lumphini. Last year the shows started at 5:20 PM, with free viewing areas around the park and paid zones in front of the stage, and the drones and fireworks began at 11:55 PM.
Asiatique The Riverfront
Further down the river, Asiatique ran a week of riverside concerts from 25 to 31 December, ending with a laser show and fireworks over the water on the night itself.
Sukhumvit Fireworks
Last year Sukhumvit joined in with fireworks launched from 15 buildings along about 5 km of the avenue, around Asok, Phrom Phong, Benchasiri Park and Thong Lor, for roughly five minutes at midnight. If you are staying on Sukhumvit, you do not need to cross the city to see fireworks.
The Temples: Chanting in the New Year
The quietest way to welcome the year, and the most Thai. Temples across the city hold New Year’s Eve chanting ceremonies, known as Suad Mon Kham Pi. Last year Wat Pho set out more than 5,000 chairs for a ceremony that ran from 7 PM to midnight. Dress modestly, with shoulders and knees covered.
Where to Watch the Fireworks
Free Viewpoints
You do not need a ticket to see the fireworks. Spots that have been recommended in past years include Taksin Bridge and Memorial Bridge for the river displays, the Ratchaprasong Skywalk for CentralWorld, and the 6th floor of Samyan Mitrtown. One rule from the police: do not stop or park your car on the river bridges.
From a Rooftop
This is where Bangkok Rooftops comes in. A rooftop gives you the same fireworks with a table, space to breathe and no crowd pushing behind you.
- For the ICONSIAM fireworks on the river: Yao Rooftop Bar, 33 floors up at the Marriott Surawongse, has one of the best river views in the city, looking down the Chao Phraya towards ICONSIAM. Higher still, Sky Bar and Sirocco at State Tower take in the whole sweep of the river. See every riverside rooftop.
- For the CentralWorld fireworks: Red Sky on the 55th floor and CRU on the 59th floor sit in the Centara Grand tower, directly above CentralWorld.
- For the Sukhumvit fireworks: ABar on the 38th floor at Phrom Phong and Octave, with its 360-degree view over Thong Lor, both look out over Sukhumvit.
- For a sky-high dinner: Vertigo, 61 floors up at Banyan Tree on Sathorn.
Most rooftops run a special New Year’s Eve package on the night instead of their usual menu, so book ahead and check what the package includes.
From a Boat
The ICONSIAM fireworks go off over the Chao Phraya itself, so a boat puts you closer to them than any rooftop or bank. A countdown cruise also covers dinner and keeps you out of the crowds on the riverbanks. Pick a sailing that is still on the water at midnight:
- Chao Phraya Princess: its countdown cruise is on sale now on Klook, from 7:30 PM to 12:30 AM from the Terminal 21 Rama 3 pier, or from 10:30 PM to 12:30 AM from Charoennakorn Soi 61, with a dinner buffet.
- Sawasdee Chaophraya Cruise: a countdown cruise from the Terminal 21 Rama 3 pier, from 10:15 PM to 1:45 AM, on sale on Klook at ฿6,500 in the air-conditioned deck or ฿7,500 on the open rooftop and prow.
- Smile Riverside: a countdown cruise from Wat Kanlaya Pier, from 9:30 PM to 12:30 AM, with an international and seafood buffet, live music and Thai classical dance, on sale on Klook at ฿4,200.
- Meridian: a countdown dinner cruise from the Supakarn Shopping Center pier, from 10:15 PM to 12:15 AM, on sale on Klook at ฿2,900, or an earlier New Year’s Eve dinner from 7:15 PM to 9:15 PM at ฿999.
- The Opulence: a countdown cruise from the Terminal 21 Rama 3 pier, from 8:15 PM to 1 AM, with a Thai and international buffet, live music and a DJ, on sale on Klook from ฿5,900.
- White Orchid: a New Year’s Eve dinner cruise from ICONSIAM or Asiatique, sailing from 7:45 PM to 12:45 AM. Booking for 31 December is not open on KKday yet.
- Manohra: Anantara Riverside’s dining cruise, with a New Year round from 10:30 PM to 12:30 AM. Booking for 31 December is not open on KKday yet.

What It Costs: New Year’s Eve 2025 Prices
Most rooftops have not published 2026 prices yet, but last year’s prices give you a good idea of the budget. “Net” means the price includes service charge and VAT. ”++” means service charge and VAT are added on top, which adds about 18%.

As a rule of thumb, a rooftop party ticket costs ฿1,500 to ฿5,000, a rooftop dinner ฿8,000 to ฿35,000 per person, and a table for a group costs more again.

Dinner Cruises on the River
A cruise puts you on the water with the ICONSIAM fireworks right in front of you. Five boats already sell 31 December seats, all on Klook, and two more have announced a New Year’s Eve sailing that is not open for booking yet. Pick a sailing that is still on the water at midnight, and check exactly where the boat will be when the fireworks start. Prices are per adult, checked on 11 October 2026; children aged 4 to 10 pay less.

Back before the fireworks: the Chao Phraya Princess also runs an early 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM sailing from Asiatique at ฿2,500, and Meridian a 7:15 PM to 9:15 PM New Year’s Eve dinner at ฿999. Last year, New Year’s Eve cruises ran from about ฿2,200 on the larger buffet boats to about ฿19,000 on the luxury hotel cruises.
Chao Phraya Princess
A dinner buffet cruise with a live band, and the most reviewed boat in our cruise guide. Klook sells three New Year’s Eve packages: 7:30 PM to 12:30 AM from the Terminal 21 Rama 3 pier at ฿4,900 per adult, 10:30 PM to 12:30 AM from Charoennakorn Soi 61 at ฿3,900, or an early 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM sailing from Asiatique at ฿2,500 that is back before midnight. Children aged 4 to 10 pay less, and the Charoennakorn and Asiatique tickets cannot be cancelled. On Klook, pick the New Year’s Eve package first, then 31 December. Meridian
A buffet cruise that normally sails from ICONSIAM, and the lowest-priced countdown cruise in this guide. On 31 December it sails three rounds from the Supakarn Shopping Center pier: a countdown dinner cruise from 10:15 PM to 12:15 AM at ฿2,900, a New Year’s Eve dinner from 7:15 PM to 9:15 PM at ฿999, and a sunset sailing from 4:45 PM to 6:30 PM. The operator says the dinner and countdown rounds include a Thai classical show and a lucky draw, and that countdown tables are limited. Book Meridian’s New Year’s Eve cruise on Klook.
The Opulence
A three-deck boat for up to 770 guests. Its countdown cruise leaves the Terminal 21 Rama 3 pier at 8:15 PM and comes back at 1 AM, with a Thai and international buffet, live music and a DJ, so you are on the water for the fireworks. Smile Riverside
A modern buffet boat that usually sails from ICONSIAM. On New Year’s Eve it leaves from Wat Kanlaya Pier for a three-hour countdown cruise, 9:30 PM to 12:30 AM, with an international and seafood buffet, live music and Thai classical dance, at ฿4,200 per adult. Book Smile Riverside on Klook.
Sawasdee Chaophraya Cruise
A large buffet boat with private VIP rooms that usually sails from ICONSIAM. Its countdown cruise leaves the Terminal 21 Rama 3 pier at 10:15 PM and comes back at 1:45 AM, the latest return in this guide: ฿6,500 per adult on the air-conditioned deck, or ฿7,500 on the open rooftop and prow. Not Open Yet: White Orchid and Manohra
Both have announced New Year’s Eve sailings, but neither sells 31 December on Klook, and they were not open on KKday either when we last checked on 8 October.
White Orchid
A Thai and international buffet cruise from ICONSIAM or Asiatique. Its KKday page lists a New Year’s Eve dinner cruise from 7:45 PM to 12:45 AM, and a Vela sailing from Asiatique from 8 PM to 12:30 AM, but 31 December is not open for booking there yet. Manohra
Anantara Riverside’s dining cruise boards at the hotel’s own pier, with a free shuttle boat from Sathorn Pier. For New Year’s Eve it plans a pre-New Year round from 7 PM to 9 PM and a New Year round from 10:30 PM to 12:30 AM on a premium set menu, though 31 December is not open on KKday yet. Where to Stay
- For the river and ICONSIAM: on the riverside, the Millennium Hilton Bangkok and the Avani+ Riverside. In Bang Rak, on the Silom side, Lebua at State Tower and the Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse. Several riverside hotels also run their own fireworks: the city approved 20 fireworks sites last year, many of them hotels.
- For CentralWorld: the hotels around Chit Lom and Ratchaprasong, such as Centara Grand at CentralWorld, where our own party is, and the Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong. They are within walking distance of the countdown, which matters when the roads close.
- For Sukhumvit’s fireworks and late nights: on Sukhumvit, from Nana to Phrom Phong, the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit, the Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit and the Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park.

Getting Around on New Year’s Eve
- Take the train. On 31 December 2025 the BTS and MRT ran until 2 AM, and the last BTS trains left Siam for every station at 2:45 AM. The Gold Line served ICONSIAM (Charoen Nakhon station) until 2:25 AM. Last year these hours were announced in the final days of December.
- Expect road closures around CentralWorld. Last year Ratchadamri closed between Pratunam and Ratchaprasong from noon on 31 December until 5 AM, and Rama I, Phloen Chit, Ratchaprarop and Phetchaburi closed from 4 PM until 2 AM. Use BTS Chit Lom or Siam.
- Use the boats for the river. Last year an electric boat loop linked Charoen Nakhon, Asiatique, Sathorn, ICONSIAM and River City until about 1 AM.
- Do not count on a taxi at midnight. With roads closed and the whole city leaving at once, cars are slow and scarce. Walk to the nearest station or plan to stay out late.
Practical Tips
- Book by early December. Rooftop tables and the cheapest party tickets go first, and prices rise as New Year’s Eve gets closer.
- Arrive early for the free countdowns. For ICONSIAM and CentralWorld, aim for late afternoon: the crowds build fast and the roads close from 4 PM.
- Check the dress code. Most rooftops want smart casual: no flip-flops, no sports vests, and often no shorts for men.
- Know the rules. You must be 20 to drink in Thailand, and drinking is not allowed in parks, at temples or on public transport.
- Stay safe in the crowds. Bangkok deploys thousands of police on the night. Keep your phone and wallet in a front pocket, agree a meeting point with your group, and save the tourist police number, 1155.
- Enjoy the weather. December is dry and comfortable, with nights around 23°C.

For the biggest fireworks, the riverside countdown at ICONSIAM, which last year ran a 20-minute display along 1.4 km of the Chao Phraya. For a city-centre street party, the countdown at CentralWorld. For the view without the crowd, a rooftop: Yao looks down the river towards ICONSIAM, while Red Sky and CRU sit directly above CentralWorld.
Are the New Year's Eve countdowns in Bangkok free?
Mostly, yes. Last year the ICONSIAM and CentralWorld countdowns were free to attend. One Bangkok had free viewing areas, with paid zones closer to the stage. Rooftop bars, hotel parties and dinner cruises are ticketed.
What time are the New Year's Eve fireworks in Bangkok?
The main displays start at midnight. Last year ICONSIAM's display lasted about 20 minutes, and One Bangkok started its drone and fireworks show at 11:55 PM. The 2026 timings will be confirmed when the countdowns are announced.
How late do the BTS and MRT run on New Year's Eve?
On 31 December 2025 the BTS and MRT lines ran until 2 AM, and the last BTS trains left Siam for every station at 2:45 AM. Extended hours for 2026 have not been announced yet, so check again in late December.
Which rooftop bars have the best view of the fireworks?
On the river, Yao Rooftop Bar looks towards ICONSIAM, and the very high river towers such as Sky Bar and Sirocco see the whole river. In the city centre, Red Sky and CRU are directly above CentralWorld. On Sukhumvit, ABar and Octave face the fireworks launched along the avenue.

Last year prices ran from about ฿1,500 for entry to a hotel rooftop party to around ฿35,000 per person for a gala dinner at the most famous sky bars, with tables costing more. For 2026, Pastel has already published a ฿3,500 countdown ticket and dinners from ฿8,900.
Do I need to book New Year's Eve in Bangkok in advance?
For a rooftop, a hotel party or a dinner cruise, yes: the best tables go weeks ahead, and the cheapest ticket tiers go first. For the free countdowns you cannot book, but you should arrive by late afternoon, before the roads close.
Which roads close in Bangkok on New Year's Eve?
Last year the roads around CentralWorld closed: Ratchadamri between Pratunam and Ratchaprasong from noon on 31 December until 5 AM, and Rama I, Phloen Chit, Ratchaprarop, Phetchaburi and the rest of Ratchadamri from 4 PM until 2 AM. Plan to arrive by BTS (Chit Lom or Siam).
What is the weather like in Bangkok on New Year's Eve?
December is Bangkok's best month: dry, with an average high around 32°C and an average low around 23°C, and usually only one rainy day in the whole month. A light layer is plenty for a rooftop at midnight.
