On 31 December the countdown boats leave from five piers, and several are not the boat's usual one. Pick a pier you can reach easily, and plan the way back for after midnight.
BRT to Charoen Rat station, in front of the mall, or a taxi from BTS Surasak. VIVA Alangka sails from here every evening, and several countdown cruises leave from it on New Year’s Eve.

A small pier south of Krung Thep Bridge, best reached by taxi. Used by the Chao Phraya Princess Indian buffet and its later New Year’s Eve programme.
On the water at midnight. The countdown rounds stay out until 12:15 AM to 1:45 AM. The early rounds are back before the fireworks.
The pier. Pick one near a BTS or MRT station: the roads are slow after midnight and the trains run until about 2 AM.
Deck or inside. An open deck or rooftop seat gives the best view, and goes first. Air-conditioned decks cost less.

Can you see the New Year’s Eve fireworks from a dinner cruise in Bangkok?
Yes. The ICONSIAM countdown fireworks go off over the Chao Phraya itself, so a boat that is still on the water at midnight has a front-row view, closer than any rooftop or riverbank. Check the sailing time: some New Year’s Eve rounds are back before midnight.
How much does a New Year’s Eve cruise cost in Bangkok?
This year the countdown cruises on sale start from ฿2,900 per adult on the buffet boats and go up to about ฿7,500 for an open-deck seat, with the luxury hotel boats much higher. Which pier do the countdown cruises leave from?
It depends on the boat, and on 31 December several boats move to a different pier from their usual one: Terminal 21 Rama 3, Charoennakorn Soi 61, Wat Kanlaya, the Supakarn Shopping Center pier and Asiatique are all used. The pier is on each card above and on your ticket.
When should I book a New Year’s Eve cruise?
As soon as you know your plans. Countdown tables are limited, the open-deck and rooftop seats go first, and some operators close their own bookings weeks before the night.
Which New Year’s Eve cruise is the cheapest?
Of the countdown cruises on sale now, Meridian Cruise is the cheapest, from ฿2,900 per adult (10:15 PM to 12:15 AM). If you only want dinner on the river and can watch the fireworks elsewhere, the early sailings cost less: Meridian Cruise (7:15 PM to 9:15 PM, ฿999), Chao Phraya Princess (7:30 PM to 9:30 PM, ฿2,500) and Sawasdee Chaophraya Cruise (6:45 PM to 8:45 PM, ฿1,500).

Yes. Children aged 4 to 10 pay a child price on most boats: on the Unicorn Cruise ฿4,200 on the open deck or ฿2,900 inside, on VIVA Alangka ฿5,000 or ฿3,500, and under 4 travel free on both.
