Bangkok does not have one New Year's Eve, it has half a dozen, each with its own stage, its own crowd and its own fireworks. Here is each countdown: where it is, how to get there, what it was like last year, and when the 2026 plans should be announced.

As of 16 October 2026, CentralWorld is the first public countdown to confirm its 2026 edition. The mall announced Bangkok Countdown 2027 on 16 October for the night of 31 December, with the line-up and the times still to come. ICONSIAM, One Bangkok and Asiatique have not announced yet: last year ICONSIAM announced in late November and the others followed in December. The times, line-ups and road closures below are from New Year’s Eve 2025, and we update each countdown the day it confirms.

ICONSIAM: Amazing Thailand Countdown

The biggest of them all, and the one with the fireworks over the water. ICONSIAM’s riverside countdown ran over five days last year, from 27 to 31 December, in the River Park on the Thonburi bank, with free entry and more than 200 artists on the stages.

The night itself ended with the city’s largest fireworks show: about 20 minutes of fireworks and drones along 1.4 km of the Chao Phraya, which the mall says can be seen up to 8 km away. Organisers counted more than 1.8 million visitors across the five days.

Getting there: the Gold Line to Charoen Nakhon station, which is inside the mall, or a shuttle boat from Sathorn Pier at BTS Saphan Taksin. Last year the Gold Line ran until 2:25 AM and an electric boat loop linked Charoen Nakhon, Asiatique, Sathorn, ICONSIAM and River City until about 1 AM. The riverbanks fill early, so aim to be there by late afternoon. The official event page is where the 2026 edition will appear first.

The view without the crowd: the river rooftops. Three Sixty at the Millennium Hilton and SEEN at the Avani+ Riverside face ICONSIAM across the water, and a countdown cruise puts you on the water under the fireworks.

CentralWorld: Bangkok Countdown

The city-centre party, often called the Times Square of Asia. CentralWorld’s countdown is free, takes over the plaza and the surrounding roads, and is famous for its line-up of Thai pop stars and a long fireworks and drone show across the Ratchaprasong skyline. More than 350,000 people came last year.

Confirmed for 2026: on 16 October CentralWorld announced Bangkok Countdown 2027 for 31 December, billing it as the original Thai countdown with more than two decades behind it and promising more surprises this year. The line-up, the times and the road closures come later, and we add them here the day they are published.

Getting there: BTS Chit Lom or Siam. Last year Ratchadamri closed between Pratunam and Ratchaprasong from noon, and Rama I, Phloen Chit, Ratchaprarop and Phetchaburi closed from 4 PM until 2 AM, so a car cannot get you close.

Nine ways to watch it from above: the Centara Grand tower next to the mall sells its whole New Year’s Eve programme this year, nine offers on sale now, four dinners and five countdown parties from the 23rd floor to the 59th, and each one books with the hotel from our pages. The countdown parties: CRU Champagne Bar on the 59th floor, COCOA XO on the 57th, Red Sky Bar on the 56th, Lotus Garden on the 26th and Tea & Tipple on the 23rd. The dinners: Red Sky Restaurant on the 55th floor, on the terrace or indoors, UNO MAS on the 54th and Ventisi on the 24th. Red Sky and CRU, the two open-air rooftops, are right above the action. Prices run from ฿3,955 net per person at Lotus Garden to ฿19,555++ for the Red Sky terrace dinner: compare all nine and price your group. Our own New Year’s Eve pool party is on the same tower’s 26th-floor Pool Deck.

One Bangkok

The newest of the big countdown venues, in One Bangkok Park on Wireless Road, next to MRT Lumphini. Last year the shows started at 5:20 PM, with free viewing areas around the park and paid zones in front of the stage, and the drones and fireworks began at 11:55 PM.

The park setting makes it the easiest of the big three for families: see New Year’s Eve with Children.

Asiatique The Riverfront

Further down the river, Asiatique ran a week of riverside concerts from 25 to 31 December, ending with a laser show and fireworks over the water on the night itself. It is smaller and calmer than ICONSIAM, with the shops and restaurants of the night market around the stage.

Asiatique’s free shuttle boat leaves from Sathorn Pier at BTS Saphan Taksin.

The Sukhumvit Fireworks

Last year Sukhumvit joined in with fireworks launched from 15 buildings along about 5 km of the avenue, around Asok, Phrom Phong, Benchasiri Park and Thong Lor, for roughly five minutes at midnight. If you are staying on Sukhumvit, you do not need to cross the city to see fireworks: the rooftops along the avenue, such as ABar at Phrom Phong and Octave at Thong Lor, face them directly.

The Temples: Chanting in the New Year

The quietest way to welcome the year, and the most Thai. Temples across the city hold New Year’s Eve chanting ceremonies, known as Suad Mon Kham Pi, and last year Wat Pho set out more than 5,000 chairs for a ceremony that ran from 7 PM to midnight.

It is free and open to everyone. Dress modestly, with shoulders and knees covered, and take your shoes off where the signs ask.

How to Choose

  • The biggest fireworks: ICONSIAM, from the River Park, a bridge or a boat. Read Where to Watch the Fireworks.
  • A city-centre street party with Thai stars: CentralWorld, confirmed for 31 December, and one of the nine Centara Grand offers above it if you want a seat.
  • The newest, with room to breathe: One Bangkok, in the park by MRT Lumphini.
  • Smaller and by the water: Asiatique.
  • Staying on Sukhumvit: the avenue’s own fireworks at midnight, best from a rooftop.
  • No crowd at all: the temple chanting, or a rooftop dinner booked by early December.

Whichever you pick, plan the way home before you leave: last year the trains ran until 2 AM and the taxis did not move. The details are in Getting Around on New Year’s Eve.

The Countdowns: Your Questions

Which New Year's Eve countdown in Bangkok is the biggest?

ICONSIAM's Amazing Thailand Countdown on the river. Last year it ran over five days with more than 200 artists, drew more than 1.8 million visitors, and ended with about 20 minutes of fireworks and drones along 1.4 km of the Chao Phraya. CentralWorld's countdown is the biggest in the city centre, with more than 350,000 people last year.

Are the Bangkok countdowns free?

Yes. ICONSIAM, CentralWorld and Asiatique were free to attend last year, and One Bangkok had free viewing areas around the park with paid zones in front of the stage. The ticketed options are the rooftops and hotel parties and the countdown cruises.

When are the 2026 countdowns announced?

CentralWorld was first: it confirmed its 31 December 2026 countdown on 16 October, with the line-up and times to follow. ICONSIAM announced its 2025 edition in late November, and the line-ups and exact times for the others came in December. We update this page the day each one confirms.

What time should I arrive for the ICONSIAM or CentralWorld countdown?

By late afternoon. The riverbanks at ICONSIAM fill early, the roads around CentralWorld closed from 4 PM last year, and the crowds are thickest from 10 PM. Come by BTS or the Gold Line, not by car: see Getting Around on New Year's Eve.
