What is confirmed for 31 December 2026 (as of 17 October 2026): our own New Year’s Eve pool party at Centara Grand, Centara Grand’s nine dinners and countdowns from Ventisi to CRU (on sale), Pastel’s countdown packages, seven countdown cruises already on sale on the river, the ICONSIAM countdown, confirmed on 14 October for 27 to 31 December, and the CentralWorld countdown, confirmed on 16 October for 31 December, both with line-ups and times still to come. One Bangkok and Asiatique have not announced their 2026 plans yet. Until they do, the countdown details below are from New Year’s Eve 2025, and we update this page as soon as each one confirms.
The Big Countdowns
Bangkok does not have one New Year’s Eve, it has half a dozen. ICONSIAM’s riverside countdown is the biggest: five days of free shows in the River Park, ending at midnight with about 20 minutes of fireworks along 1.4 km of the Chao Phraya.
CentralWorld is the city-centre street party, with Thai pop stars and a long fireworks and drone show over Ratchaprasong, and Red Sky, CRU, the rest of Centara Grand’s nine New Year’s Eve offers and our own pool deck party right above it.
One Bangkok has the newest stage, in a park by MRT Lumphini; Asiatique and Sukhumvit have fireworks of their own; and Wat Pho chants in the year with 5,000 chairs set out. The 2026 editions are announced from late November.

Where to Watch the Fireworks
For free: Taksin Bridge and Memorial Bridge for the river, the Ratchaprasong Skywalk for CentralWorld, the 6th floor of Samyan Mitrtown. From a rooftop, match the rooftop to the display: Three Sixty and SEEN sit on the riverbank facing ICONSIAM, Red Sky and CRU sit above CentralWorld, ABar and Octave face the Sukhumvit fireworks.

More venues announce through October and November, and we add them here as they do. As a rule of thumb, a rooftop party ticket costs ฿3,000 to ฿5,000, usually with a couple of drinks included, and a rooftop dinner ฿8,000 to ฿35,000 per person.

The free countdowns are the family option, with One Bangkok’s park the easiest to move around. For dinner with the CentralWorld fireworks in front of you, the Ventisi buffet at Centara Grand is indoors with a Lotus Garden add-on for the terrace at midnight, and last year Moxy Bangkok Ratchaprasong opened its 9th-floor terrace to families with children’s prices.
The countdown cruises take children from age 4, with early sailings back before bedtime; the rooftop bar parties are for guests aged 20 and over.

Getting Around on New Year’s Eve
Take the train: last year the BTS and MRT ran until 2 AM, with the last trains from Siam at 2:45 AM. Expect the roads around CentralWorld to close from 4 PM, use the Gold Line and the boats for the river, and do not count on a taxi at midnight: walk to the nearest station or stay out until the crowd thins.

Is New Year's Eve in Bangkok worth it?
Yes, if you plan it. The mistakes are leaving it to the last week, when the good tables are gone and the taxis are not moving, and trying to see two countdowns in one night. Pick one, book it by early December, and stay on the right side of the road closures.

On 31 December 2025 the BTS and MRT lines ran until 2 AM, and the last BTS trains left Siam for every station at 2:45 AM. Extended hours for 2026 have not been announced yet, so check again in late December.

Do I need to book New Year's Eve in Bangkok in advance?
For a rooftop, a hotel party or a dinner cruise, yes: the best tables go weeks ahead, and the cheapest ticket tiers go first. For the free countdowns you cannot book, but you should arrive by late afternoon, before the roads close.
Can I walk into a rooftop bar on New Year's Eve without a booking?
Very unlikely. We do not know a single rooftop that takes walk-ins on New Year's Eve: the night is sold as packages and tables, booked and usually paid in advance, and the bars are at capacity by early evening. Book by early December, or pick a free countdown instead.
What should I wear to a rooftop on New Year's Eve?
Smart casual at the least, and smarter for the dinners. The usual rooftop rules apply harder on the night: no flip-flops, no sports vests and, for men, often no shorts, and the gala dinners expect you to dress up. December nights are around 23°C, so a light layer is enough.

Is New Year's Eve in Bangkok safe?
Yes. Bangkok's New Year's Eve is a family crowd rather than a rowdy one, and the city deploys thousands of police around the countdowns, with bag checks at the entrances. The real risks are small: pickpockets in the crush, a lost child in the crowd, and the ride home, when the ride-hailing apps raise their prices and the roads are closed. Keep your phone and wallet in a front pocket, fix a meeting point, carry some cash in small notes, and take the train. The tourist police number is 1155.
Which roads close in Bangkok on New Year's Eve?
Last year the roads around CentralWorld closed: Ratchadamri between Pratunam and Ratchaprasong from noon on 31 December until 5 AM, and Rama I, Phloen Chit, Ratchaprarop, Phetchaburi and the rest of Ratchadamri from 4 PM until 2 AM. Plan to arrive by BTS (Chit Lom or Siam).
Is Khao San Road open on New Year's Eve?
Yes. On 31 December the street itself is the party: bars, music and a crowd of backpackers from end to end. There are no fireworks on Khao San, and the organised street countdown is not guaranteed every year (it was cancelled in 2022 during a period of national mourning), so treat it as the after-party rather than the main event. For the fireworks, go to the river for ICONSIAM or to CentralWorld.
What is the weather like in Bangkok on New Year's Eve?
December is Bangkok's best month: dry, with an average high around 32°C and an average low around 23°C, and usually only one rainy day in the whole month. A light layer is plenty for a rooftop at midnight.
Is Thai New Year on 31 December?
No. Thai New Year is Songkran, the water festival on 13 to 15 April. Bangkok celebrates 31 December as well, with the countdowns, fireworks and parties on this page. 1 January is a public holiday in Thailand, and in 2027 it falls on a Friday: banks and government offices close, while the malls, restaurants and rooftops stay open.
