SKY OF WISHES LANTERN FESTIVAL24 & 25 NOVEMBER 2026 · 3 PM to 11 PM
Mungmana Farm, San Pa Tong, Chiang Mai
Thailand's biggest lantern festival, two nights in Chiang Mai. 30,000 guests, over 100,000 lanterns released together at 9 PM under the Yi Peng full moon. Four tiers from ฿3,900, dinner and three sky lanterns included.
Thailand’s Biggest Lantern Festival, Two Nights in Chiang Mai
Every November, Chiang Mai lights its sky for Yi Peng, the Lanna festival of lights. Sky of Wishes turns that tradition into the largest lantern festival in Thailand: a purpose-built arena at Mungmana Farm in San Pa Tong, more than 30,000 guests across two nights, and over 100,000 lanterns rising together above cultural villages, Lanna performances and a fireworks finale.
You arrive in the afternoon, walk the villages and the craft stalls, eat according to your ticket, and at 8 PM move into the Pagoda Area for the ceremony. At 9 PM everyone lets go at once. Chiang Mai is a short flight from Bangkok, and this is the one night of the year worth leaving the rooftops for.

The Four Zones
The arena is built in rings around the pagoda. Standard (STD-01 to 08) and VIP (VIP-09 to 16) sit closest to the centre, where the lanterns go up around you. Premium (PRM-17 to 23) takes the next ring, positioned for a sweeping view of the sky. Elite (ELT-24 to 30) sits on the elevated outer edge with a panoramic view over everything. Every zone has a clear line to the sky and the stage.
Yi Peng, the Reason for the Night
Yi Peng is the Lanna festival of lights, held on the full moon of the twelfth lunar month, the same full moon as Loy Krathong. Sky lanterns, the khom loi, carry wishes up and troubles away. Water lanterns, the krathong, float them down the river. In 2026 Loy Krathong falls on Wednesday 25 November, so the festival’s two nights sit right on it.
Sky of Wishes keeps the ritual at the centre. Every ticket comes with three sky lanterns and a water lantern: Standard, VIP and Premium guests make their own at the craft stalls, Elite guests receive one prepared for them. The release itself is led from the Pagoda Area after the opening ceremony, so the whole arena lets go together.
Before the Lanterns: Villages, Crafts and Dinner
The gates open at 3 PM, six hours before the release, and the afternoon is the other half of the festival. The grounds are laid out as cultural villages with local crafts and Lanna experiences, and from 3:30 PM the performances run across the site: traditional Lanna dance, cultural showcases and live music.
Dinner starts at 5 PM and follows your ticket. Standard guests eat at the Walking Street food market, VIP guests sit down to a Thai and Lanna buffet, Premium guests move to exclusive dining, and Elite guests take the Chef’s Table. Dress respectfully: traditional Thai or Lanna dress is warmly welcomed, and the organiser suggests a light jacket or shawl, because Chiang Mai evenings in November can be cool.
