Yao Rooftop Bar
Rooftop Bar & Restaurant · bang rak · 33F
Thirty-three floors up over Bang Rak, YÀO does something most rooftops in this stretch of the river don’t bother with: it makes you look in two directions at once. One way, the glass-and-steel high-rises throw their light around. The other, the low tin roofs and temple spires of the old town hold their ground. YÀO sits on the seam between them, and that contrast is the whole point.
Come up before the light goes. Order something cold, claim a spot at the open-air bar, and watch the city change colour. The drinks list leans into Oriental flair, mocktails and cocktails built to match the room, so the teetotaller at your table isn’t stuck nursing a soda. Dress smart-casual, like any good sky bar, and you’ll fit right in.
Eat like you mean it
This is a restaurant as much as a bar, and you should treat it that way. Chef Bruce Hui runs a modern Chinese menu with a bold streak: delicate dim sum to start, vibrant Chinese plates to build on. Get a table on the rooftop for the buzz, or book one of the private dining rooms when the night calls for something quieter. Either way, come hungry. This is Bangkok skyline meeting Shanghai sophistication, and it tastes like someone meant it.
When to come
Doors open at 5 PM and the night runs to 1 AM, so you’ve got options. Slide in early for golden hour and the after-work calm, or roll up later when the bar finds its rhythm and the skyline does the talking. Drinks start from ฿400, which buys you a seat at one of the better views in the neighbourhood. Book ahead on weekends. The good tables go fast.
If you’re plotting a full evening up high, YÀO pairs well with the riverside heavyweights nearby. Make it a crawl: pre-dinner bubbles at CRU Champagne Bar, then the open-air drama of Sirocco Sky and Sky Bar at Lebua, or swing over to Spire Rooftop Bar to keep the altitude going. For timing your sunset right, our guide to 7 rooftops for golden hour has you covered, and you can browse all Bangkok rooftops when you’re building the night from scratch.
YÀO rewards people who show up with a plan and an appetite. Bring both.
