Guests can swim, dance, relax beside the pool, meet new people or reserve a table, sunbed or VIP area. You do not have to swim to enjoy the event.

No. Swimming is completely optional at most Bangkok pool parties. Many guests spend the entire event dancing, socializing, having drinks or relaxing beside the pool. You can enjoy the music and atmosphere without entering the water.

Wear stylish but comfortable poolside clothing suitable for Bangkok’s warm weather: swimwear, shorts, light shirts, summer dresses, sandals and casual resort wear. Many guests wear swimwear underneath a shirt, dress or cover-up so they can move comfortably between the pool, bar and hotel areas. Avoid arriving in wet clothing, bare feet or swimwear alone when walking through hotel reception areas.

Most Bangkok pool parties have a relaxed, fashionable resort-style dress code. Swimwear and casual summer clothing are normally appropriate around the pool. Because they require significant planning, venue coordination and promotion, each organizer typically runs one about once a month rather than every week. If a pool party is important to your trip, check organizers’ schedules in advance, book early, and consider planning your Bangkok stay around the event dates.

For a premium corporate night, The Consul Club in Nana (30F) handles large parties of around 150-200 guests, and CRU Champagne Bar, 59 floors up at Centara Grand on Chidlom, delivers the luxury end for clients and team alike. Yao Rooftop Bar over the river in Bang Rak (33F) is the other strong call for big groups: its two-floor layout gives you room to spread out. For a lively, festive birthday, Pastel on Sukhumvit Soi 11 (22F, Nana) is our pick. They have real group-booking expertise and the night slides from dinner into a proper party. For bigger gatherings that need wow factor, Yao Rooftop Bar (33F, Bang Rak) does it across two floors. AESOPS in Asok (25F) is a proven favourite for group parties too, though we haven't personally hosted an event there yet. Often, yes. Bangkok rooftops commonly set a minimum spend for prime tables, private areas and weekend or peak-season dates, and a deposit to hold the space is normal. But the figures vary a lot by venue, date and group size, and they shift through the year, so we don't publish blanket numbers that wouldn't be accurate for your booking. We confirm the exact minimum spend and any deposit when we reply, before you commit to anything.

The earlier the better, especially for weekends, public holidays, the cool-season peak (November to February) and anything needing a private area or a larger party. The best tables and dates go first, often weeks ahead, and more lead time means more venue choice and a smoother setup. Last-minute is still worth asking about. We'll tell you honestly what's open once we see your dates.

Sunset lands around 6:20-6:30pm most of the year. Aim to be at the edge about twenty minutes early for the best of the colour.

It depends on what you want from the night. For altitude and sunset, CRU Champagne Bar; for an all-round refined evening, Spire; for a hidden-gem view, Amber Bar; for something completely different, Cocoa XO and its Chocolate Cave; and for a party, Aether or Pastel. Our current overall favourite is Aether, but the best rooftop bar in Bangkok really comes down to whether you prioritise views, food, romance or nightlife.

For a high, central, 360-degree panorama, CRU Champagne Bar and Red Sky, both in the same tower at CentralWorld, are hard to beat. For something different, Yao Rooftop Bar has the best river view, taking in the Chao Phraya and ICONSIAM, while Amber Bar pairs Benjakitti Park in the foreground with the Sukhumvit skyline behind.

Aether and CRU Champagne Bar are our top sunset picks for their central elevation, with Yao Rooftop Bar excellent for a sunset over the river. If you prefer a lower, more in-the-city golden hour, View in the Pratunam and CentralWorld area is a relaxed alternative. (One note: Spire's sunset is now largely blocked by a new tower behind the Dusit Thani, so go there for the view and cocktails rather than the sundown.)

Aether and Pastel are the most reliable for a real party with DJs, dancers and live performers, while Tulum SkyBar adds fire shows and a high-energy, Mexican-party atmosphere, with Club Veyla downstairs for the after-party on weekends. Sato San and Yao Rooftop Bar both run regular DJs for a livelier night, and Above Eleven hosts midweek salsa parties.

More than you might expect, as long as you book the restaurant side rather than the bar. Sirocco welcomes all ages, the Vertigo restaurant at the Banyan Tree runs a kids' menu, and Red Sky Restaurant, the UNO MAS restaurant and Octave's 45th-floor restaurant all accept children, while their bar levels stay 20+. CHAR Restaurant takes under-16s with an adult, Sky Bar at Lebua admits ages 7 and up with an adult, and Cooling Tower welcomes kids 7+ before 8pm. Cielo, Aesop's early in the evening, Akara Sky Hanuman and the ICONSIAM riverside terraces, Fallabella River Front and Bianca Iconsiam, round out the list. Yes, at the right venues. The rule of thumb: rooftop restaurants usually welcome children, while standalone cocktail bars and party rooftops usually enforce a 20+ policy with ID checks at the door. Tichuca, for example, is adults only despite appearing on some family lists. Go early, around 5:30 to 6pm, dress the kids smart-casual for the hotel venues, and confirm the policy with the venue before you travel.

Spire is our go-to for a romantic rooftop date in Bangkok. The view, the cocktails and the food all deliver. CRU Champagne Bar is the choice for a special occasion, Cocoa XO is the move if you both like chocolate and a bit of theatre, and Amber Bar's unusual park-and-skyline view makes a memorable, lower-key alternative.

For dinner or a special occasion, especially at the most popular tables and on weekend party nights, booking ahead is the sensible move. For casual drinks earlier in the evening you can often walk in, but a reservation is the safer bet at the busiest rooftops like Red Sky, Spire and CRU Champagne Bar, and for Cocoa XO's Chocolate Cave, which fills up fast.

Smart casual is the safe call everywhere on this list. The high-rise names (CRU Champagne Bar, Red Sky, Spire and Cocoa XO) actually enforce it: no shorts, vests or tank tops, no sportswear, and no flip-flops or slippers, with closed shoes reading better for men. Lower-key spots like View and Tulum SkyBar are more relaxed, but you'll never be turned away for being a touch smart. At the big-name towers, expect roughly 350-550 baht for a cocktail, and more for wine or champagne. CRU Champagne Bar is firmly the splurge end. A realistic plan is around 1,500-2,500 baht a head for a few drinks and something to eat, less at the lower-rise and party-led spots, and considerably more if you're ordering bottles or marking an occasion with champagne at sunset. You're paying for the setting as much as the drink, so pick the rooftop to match the night rather than chasing the cheapest round.

For a normal night, almost none of the rooftops on this list charge a cover. You simply pay for what you order. Some hold their best railing-side tables for a minimum spend on busy weekend nights, and one-off ticketed events (our pool parties, for example) are a separate thing entirely. Walking in for drinks is usually free; it's the prime table and the view you're really paying for.

Most are genuinely open-air. That's the whole appeal. A heavy downpour can briefly pause service on the exposed deck, so in the wet season (roughly June to October) the rooftops with an indoor or covered level are the safe bets: Amber Bar has a second floor below the open deck, and Red Sky pairs its open terrace with an indoor restaurant. Check the forecast, arrive a little early to claim your spot, and keep a backup in mind on a stormy evening.

November to February, the cool dry season, is the sweet spot: clear skies, lower humidity and the best sunsets of the year. March to May is hot but usually clear. June to October is the rainy season; you still get plenty of dry evenings (storms tend to pass quickly), but the open-air party calendar thins out, so it pays to stay flexible and check the weather before you head up.
